The ratification vote is now complete and has been passed. We thank the members who came out and voted. Your vote shows the support in what we do makes a difference. As part of the agreement Article 20 states that we must give up 2 student contact days and one non student contact day. The breakdown is as follows:
The 2010-1011 school calendar will now be 178 days instead of 180 days. The two non paid/days off school days will be: Friday, November 12 and Monday January 3.
The non student day off will be the compensation loss from one holiday, but will not designate a holiday since we have not given up an holidays from our contract. This is just for eh 2010 - 2011 school year.
The cost of Health benefits has increased. We will be bargaining with the district on this in the fall.
The Classified members were given 42 layoff notices with 25 member's positions being eliminated. This alone was a savings of over $450,000.00 for the district. Next year we need to be watchful of the classified positions not being filled to make sure our contract is followed.
Next year, we look forward to having more member forums so we can hear what members have to say. We also want to be able to inform our members on what is happening. Next year looks to be another financially difficult year - communication will be very important. THANK YOU to Mike Downey for his many years of service to our association. Mike had been an exceptional advocate for VCEA and stood up for our members countless times. Mike has served on VCEA's Bargaining Team for 25 years.
Mike is retiring from the district on June 30, 2010
